FCRHA Recognizes James Kenny for Making Affordable Homes Part of His Legacy

The Fairfax County Redevelopment and Housing Authority (FCRHA), at its February 18 meeting, recognized Mr. James Kenny for his generous contribution to affordable housing. In appreciation of the assistance he received from the FCRHA to purchase a home in the Sully District, Kenny has bequeathed a portion of his estate to the Housing Gift Fund to help future families.

“We express our deepest gratitude to Mr. James Kenny for such a touching act of generosity,” said FCRHA Chair Melissa McKenna. “His ‘pay-it-forward’ spirit is an inspiration for all of us at the FCRHA as he has made home affordability a part of his legacy which will benefit future families who are in need of access to an affordable home.”

In 2010 Mr. Kenny was a resident at the FCRHA-owned Little River Glen independent living community, when he applied to the FCRHA Silver Lining Program which provided gap, down payment and closing cost assistance to help first-time homebuyers purchase foreclosed homes in Fairfax County. The second trust loan he received provided the needed financing for him to purchase a home in the Sully District.

"I feel very lucky to live in Fairfax County,” said Kenny. “It’s one of the best governments in the country and I’ve benefitted from that."

Mr. Kenny’s generous donation will be contributed to the Housing Gift Fund where it will be used to help future individuals and families have access to affordable homes. The Housing Gift Fund provides the means by which individuals wishing to make contributions furthering affordable housing throughout the county may be able to do so.
