Charter

The Affordable Housing Preservation Action Committee has been appointed by the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors in response to a critical need to preserve existing affordable housing in Fairfax County. The Action Committee is appointed with the following charter:

• To assess best practices in affordable housing preservation from communities around the country and region similar in size and demographics to Fairfax County.

• To assess the recommendations, suggestions and ideas generated from the Affordable Housing Preservation Forum held on June 2, 2004.

• To develop a set of recommendations for consideration by the Board of Supervisors to include specific actions, policies and positions which would result in the preservation of 1000 affordable housing units over the next three years. The final recommendations would provide a menu of key actions that could be taken by 1) The Board of Supervisors; 2) Richmond; 3) our Congressional delegation; 4) the private sector; 5) non-profits; or 6) our neighborhoods and communities.

• To promote collaboration and synergy among the private sector, non-profit organizations, the county’s housing authority, and the County government in the interest of affordable housing preservation.

• To approach its mission with a sense of creativity, a positive attitude and a collaborative spirit.

• To complete its task within six months.
