Fairfax County Celebrates CDBG Week April 25-April 30, 2011

Monday, April 25 through Friday, April 30 is Community Development Week in Fairfax County.  For more than 36 years, the federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program has been an important financial tool in the county’s effort to address the needs of its low and moderate income residents.  CDBG funds have helped build community centers, acquire affordable housing and support numerous local non-profits.  CDBG supports Fairfax County’s Consolidated Community Funding Pool which provides funding for a variety of human services, affordable housing development administration and construction and the acquisition and/or rehabilitation of affordable housing in the county.  Over the years, the county has invested more than $184.8 million for these purposes.

The national celebration of Community Development Week each spring focuses attention on the importance of CDBG and the many benefits it brings to the community and those most in need.  Community Development Week is a national initiative supported by organizations nationwide including the National Association of Counties and the National Community Development Association.
