HCD Staff Recognized for Efforts on Foreclosure Prevention Outreach Kathy Jones, Lead Housing Services Specialist with the Homeownership Division of the Department of Housing and Community Development, was recognized with a 2010 Award of Excellence by the Virginia Association of Housing Counselors for her efforts in developing Fairfax County’s Foreclosure Prevention Outreach Program. Fairfax County’s Foreclosure Outreach Program is presented through a partnership between the county’s Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD), Department of Consumer Affairs and Legal Services of Northern Virginia. Ms. Jones played a lead role in developing the presentation and program and expanding the program into the community. The Outreach Program includes a “Process for Triage and Assessment to Avoid Foreclosure,” which trains local housing counselors and other professionals on how to advise those at-risk of foreclosure and includes a tool kit of information that is used to educate homeowners on foreclosure prevention; renters rights if a home they are living in goes to foreclosure; and the dangers of foreclosure scams.
