Board of Supervisors Funds Urgent “Housing Blueprint” Priorities in FY 2011 Budget
“Bridging Affordability” Program, North Hill, Senior Housing to Receive Critical Investments

On Tuesday, April 27, 2010, the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors adopted the county’s Fiscal Year 2011 budget, which includes funding for the most urgent priorities identified in the Housing Blueprint.  $4 million in available operating revenues from Wedgewood to fund the Blueprint’s new “Bridging Affordability” program. In addition, the Capital Improvement Program (CIP) adopted by the Board includes the following capital projects: Lincolnia and Lewinsville senior housing properties, in the Mason and Dranesville Districts, respectively as well as for the development of 67 units of affordable housing at the Residences of North Hill Park in the Mount Vernon District.

Bridging Affordability: The “Bridging Affordability” program is expected to provide approximately $4.1 million to non-profits for use as rental subsidies and capital for the acquisition of additional affordable units.  In FY 2011, it is expected that these funds will serve approximately 48 homeless individuals and families, and about 364 households coming off the county’s affordable housing waiting lists.  The Bridging Affordability program is now in design, and will be the topic of the May 3, 2010 Non-Profit Dialogue (2 PM, Conference Rooms 4 and 5, Government Center).  It is anticipated that the design of the Bridging Affordability program will be presented to the Board of Supervisors Housing Committee for consideration at its meeting on May 18, 2010.

Capital Construction: Based on the FY 2011 budget, it is anticipated that the Board will review and approve the final project scopes and financing plans for the North Hill, Lewinsville and Lincolnia capital projects, as they are developed.
