Fairfax County’s Partnership for Permanent Housing Program Receives NACCED Award for Excellence

Fairfax County’s Partnership for Permanent Housing Program (PPH) won the 2009 National Association for County Community and Economic Development (NACCED) Award of Excellence in the HOME Investment Partnerships Program category.  Doug Lynott, Senior Program Manager at HCD,  accepted the award at the NACCED 34th Annual Community and Economic Development Conference held Tuesday October 6, 2009 in Chicago, Illinois. Since its launch as a pilot program in 2006, PPH has established itself as a well structured and successful model for moving homeless families into permanent housing and homeownership while creating a foundation for sustainable self-sufficiency.

This innovative program is a collaborative effort among county government and nonprofit organizations. Partners include the county’s Department of Housing and Community Development and Department of Family Services, and three local nonprofit organizations (New Hope Housing, Northern Virginia Family Service and Reston Interfaith). PPH is an important component of the county’s 10-Year Plan to Prevent and End Homelessness and has become a model of collaboration and partnership.

NACCED is a national nonprofit organization composed of county government agencies that administer community and economic development and affordable housing programs. An affiliate of the National Association of Counties (NACo), NACCED recognizes the many achievements of counties through the annual Awards of Excellence.
