Governor’s Housing Forum Held at Fairfax County Government Center

On Monday, June 8, Governor Kaine, along with U.S. Senators Jim Webb and Mark Warner; Congressmen Frank Wolf, Jim Moran and Gerry Connolly; Northern Virginia state legislators, and more than 200 citizens gathered at the Fairfax County Government Center to discuss housing issues and proposed solutions with the community, local government officials, mortgage brokers and realtors, homebuilders and housing advocates.  The forum provided the opportunity for an exchange of information with a number of ideas brought to the attention of officials by the various attendees.  During the discussion, government officials reiterated their desire to promote action and legislation that would be effective in helping with the issue of housing.

During the Forum, Governor Kaine announced the award of $17.5 million in Neighborhood Stabilization Funds to jurisdictions in the Commonwealth for the purchase and rehabilitation of foreclosed homes. The Neighborhood Stabilization Program is an initiative to ease the impact of foreclosures on neighborhoods severely hurt by the housing crisis
The $17.5 million will be distributed as follows:

The remaining $2.5 million, which will be administered in collaboration with the Northern Shenandoah Valley Regional Commission, will address neighborhoods in the Sensey Corridor, Stephens City, Northwest and Central Front Royal and Pendleton.
