Friday, March 27, 2009 Fairfax County Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD) in partnership with The Northern Virginia Affordable Housing Alliance has announced that they will provide six scholarships for non-profit housing development partners working in Fairfax County to attend an upcoming affordable housing finance educational conference and training. The National Association of Local Housing Finance Agencies (NALHFA), in cooperation with George Mason University, will be offering certification and continuing education units (CEU) for completion of specialized training in affordable housing finance. The conference will be held at the Hyatt Regency Capitol Hill, Washington, DC, April 16 – 18. The conference will offer three educational tracks. The Specialist track is for those new to affordable housing finance and development. Participants with some development experience can increase their knowledge of more complex transactions in the Master track. The Leadership track addresses key issues of affordable housing finance with an emphasis on how agencies are faring in these tough economic times. HCD and the Alliance will sponsor up to six individuals, providing a scholarship to cover $340 of the $415 registration fee, and the non-profit organization will be responsible for the remaining $75. Scholarships will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. Organizations who are interested in this opportunity for their employees should contact Michelle Krocker at michellekrocker@gmail.com. Please provide the name of your organization, and the person who will be attending, your commitment to pay $75, and the track in which you are interested. If your organization has no prior real estate experience, please provide us with your plans for real estate development in the coming year.
