SPECIAL ALERT -
HCD Announces the Availability of CHDO Funds Under the HOME Program

The Fairfax County Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD) announces the availability of Community Housing Development Corporation (CHDO) set-aside funds under the federal HOME Investment Partnerships Program (HOME). Project proposals are being solicited to construct, acquire, or rehabilitate affordable housing. Preference criteria include:

  • Projects that include preservation and acquisition of affordable housing; and/or
  • Projects that will result in affordable housing that is accessible to disabled persons; and/or
  • Projects that provide beneficiaries with direct access to public transportation and/or community retail centers and/or supportive services; and/or
  • Projects that can be completed within a three-to-12 month timeframe upon receipt of award funds.

FY 2009 BONUS CRITERION
In addition to these preference criteria, up to 25 additional application points will be awarded to each CHDO project proposal involving the use of CHDO set-aside award funds to acquire one or more foreclosed single family properties in Fairfax County. These units must be used as either homebuyer or rental units for either low-income homebuyers or low-income tenant households. For the purposes of this RFP, “foreclosed properties” may include any bank-owned or Fairfax County Redevelopment Housing Authority (FCRHA)-owned foreclosed single family properties (including single-family detached and townhouse units).

FY 2009 FUNDING
Up to $402,624 is available for HOME CHDO funds based on the federal requirement to set-aside at least 15% of the county's annual funding under the HOME Program for CHDO-eligible activities.

A Pre-Bid Conference will be held on Monday, September 8, 2008 from 10 a.m.–11 a.m. in the First Floor Training Room at Fairfax County Department of Housing and Community Development, 3700 Pender Drive, Fairfax, VA 22030. NOTE: It is not mandatory to attend the Pre-Bid Conference in order to submit a bid.
