Good Shepherd Reaches Housing Goal
Good Shepherd Housing, a Fairfax County non-profit organization that recently accomplished its goal of acquiring 10 housing units for the Mount Vernon Village II Scattered Site Homes project during FY 2007 - 2008. To complete this project, Good Shepherd purchased two properties with Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding administered through the Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD) on June 12 and June 30.

The two housing units purchased in June will be added to Good Shepherd’s Apartments Budgeting Counseling (A-B-C) Rental Program which provides affordable rental housing to former homeless shelter residents who were denied housing in their own name due to bad credit or a poor rental history.

In order to finance the acquisition of the Mount Vernon Village II Scattered Site Homes, Good Shepherd obtained a loan from the Consolidated Community Funding Pool between the FY 2007 and 2008 funding rounds for a combined total of $1,304,000. The loan was split into $652,000 per fiscal year. The two housing units purchased in June completed the 10 housing unit project that began two years ago.

Good Shepherd has been one of HCD’s more active non-profit partners in the last few years. They have received CDBG and HOME Investment Partnership Program funds in the past and they currently own 26 properties. Of these 26 properties, 19 have been purchased with county funds. With the help of these funds, Good Shepherd administers an array of programs that benefit the low-income community to prevent homelessness, provide community support and promote self-sufficiency.
