FACETS Marks Twenty Years of Serving Fairfax County
Fairfax Area Christian Emergency and Transitional Services, Inc. (FACETS) celebrated its 20th Anniversary on July 19 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Falls Church. The event was open to the public and included live entertainment, food and the presentation of the first annual FACETS Spirit Award to the non-profit’s founder, Linda D. Wimpey. This anniversary marked two decades of service FACETS brought to households of low income in Fairfax County. The organization has grown from a humble beginning of Ms. Wimpey single-handedly delivering hot meals to the homeless. Now, an additional 600 church volunteers help Ms. Wimpey fulfill her vision. FACETS is funded by the Consolidated Community Funding Pool for its Family Enrichment Services and Homeless Intervention Programs, which are overseen by the Grants Management staff at the Department of Housing and Community Development. FACETS’ many programs and services include providing free, emergency medical and dental treatment for the underprivileged, supplying toiletries, holiday gifts and children’s school supplies to those in need. In 2007, FACETS assisted more than 2,900 homeless persons and individuals who live in low-income publicly assisted housing.
