Chairman Conrad Egan Recognized as Lord of Fairfax

Fairfax County Redevelopment and Housing Authority (FCRHA) Chairman Conrad Egan will be recognized as Providence District's "Lord Fairfax" on Monday, June 2. The yearly honor is awarded by the Board of Supervisors to community volunteer leaders demonstrating exceptional service for their respective district or an act of heroism.

Conrad Egan has had a long and distinguished career in affordable housing at both the national and local level.  His involvement in community development and housing dates back to 1965 when he worked on local housing activities in Detroit, Michigan.  In 1969, Conrad joined the staff of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) serving in a variety of headquarters and field assignments, including serving as director of the Office of Multifamily Housing Management.  He would later rejoin the HUD staff as a special assistant to the deputy assistant secretary for multifamily programs, and then became a special assistant to former HUD Secretary Henry Cisneros.  From 1986 to 1993, Conrad was executive vice president of NHP Inc., at the time one of the nation’s largest multifamily property owners and managers.  Chairman Egan became president and CEO of the National Housing Conference (NHC) in January 2003, after serving for five years as NHC’s director of policy.  During 2001 and 2002, Mr. Egan took a leave of absence from NHC to serve as executive director of the Millennial Housing Commission, established by the United States Congress to recommend ways to better support good housing for all Americans.

Conrad Egan has served on the FCRHA since March 1997, and as its Chairman since July 2000; Mr. Egan has announced plans to step down from the FCRHA in July, concluding a tenure during which the FCRHA and Fairfax County made great strides in producing and preserving affordable housing.
