Magnet Housing Program has been selected as the winner of the 2008 Thomas H. Muehlenbeck Award for Excellence in Local Government

Fairfax County’s Magnet Housing Program has been selected as the winner of the 2008 Thomas H. Muehlenback Award through the Alliance for Innovation for Excellence in Local Government.  The Thomas H. Muehlenback award recognizes one local government and its program in the United States for demonstrating outstanding achievements. The Magnet Housing program was selected among 82 entries! In addition to receiving the Thomas H. Muehlenback award, three individuals may be selected to receive an internal champion award.

The award will be presented to Fairfax County Department of Housing and Community Development at the 2008 Transforming Local Government Conference in Greenville, South Carolina from June 4-6, 2008. A presentation highlighting the Magnet Housing program will be presented at the awards luncheon on Thursday, June 5 at 12:15 p.m. Since 1987, Thomas H. Muehlenbeck served as the City Manager of Plano, Texas and as the Board of Director’s Chair for The Innovation Group for 10 years.

To date, 48 units of magnet housing have been developed by Fairfax County Department of Housing and Community Development.
