HUD Commends Fairfax County on FY 2007 Use of Federal Grant Funds
Consolidated End-of-Year Performance Review Evaluates CDBG, HOME Activities

In a report issued February 5, 2008, the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) congratulated Fairfax County on its many accomplishments using federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and HOME Investment Partnership funds in Fiscal Year 2007.  Among the accomplishments cited by HUD in its Consolidated End-of-Year Performance Review were:

  • Preservation of 531 affordable housing units;
  • Assisting 142 low- and moderate-income households in becoming first-time homeowners; and
  • Issuing 29 loans through the Homebuyer Equity Loan Program (HELP).

Fairfax County receives an annual allocation of CDBG, HOME and Emergency Shelter Grant (ESG) funds based on a HUD formula which takes into consideration a number of demographic factors.  In addition, Fairfax County receives a small amount of funding from the Housing for Persons with AIDS (HOPWA) grant, via the District of Columbia’s HIV/AIDS Administration.  These grants are administered by HUD’s Community Planning and Development Division (CPD) and are governed by Fairfax County’s Five-Year Consolidated Plan and Annual Action Plans.
