January 4, 2008 Announcement of Awarding of Project-Based Vouchers from October 2007 Applications The organizations to which the FCRHA awarded the Project-Based Vouchers from the October availability are: AHC, Inc.—A local non-profit organization that has been preserving and producing affordable housing for more than 30 years in Northern Virginia, with well over 2,000 units of affordable housing. AHC, Inc was awarded 12 Project-Based Vouchers to preserve affordable housing for low-income families in the Seven Corners area of Falls Church. The renovated units are being leased to families earning up to 50 percent of the area median income. The Brain Foundation—Founded in 2003, the Brain Foundation provides housing and services to persons afflicted with serious and persistent brain injury or illness enabling them to live in dignity and safety within the community. The Foundation was awarded two Project-Based Vouchers that will provide housing for residents who might otherwise be homeless or living in substandard housing. Reston Interfaith, Inc.—A local non-profit agency operating in Reston/Herndon area of Fairfax County for 37 years, Reston Interfaith, Inc. has been preserving affordable housing and providing services to low-income and at-risk families. Their work focuses on the prevention of or reducing the time spent in homelessness and family trauma by providing services that get the family stabilized in safe and affordable housing and working with the family, through supportive services and community support, to maintain their housing and to develop life skills and changes as they work towards their goal of self-sufficiency. Reston Interfaith was awarded nine Project-Based Vouchers that will assist families towards that goal. Robert Pierre Johnson (RPJ) Housing Development Corporation—In operation for 29 years in Fairfax County this local non-profit organization has been preserving and producing affordable housing with over 3,055 total units, of which 1,334 are in Fairfax County. RPJ serves families and individuals who are elderly or handicapped and/or earn below 50 and 60 percent of the area median income. RPJ was awarded up to 20 Project-Based Vouchers to aid the organization in providing affordable and safe housing as they strive to stabilize communities and to assist their residents in attaining self-sufficiency. As a reminder, the FCRHA has announced the availability of up to 74 Project-Based Vouchers for existing housing and the acceptance of proposals from organizations that provide housing and services to qualified households, with a preference to organizations that provide housing to seniors, persons 62 years of age or older.
