CDBG

April 6, 2007
Community Development Week

For many years, Fairfax County has observed Community Development Week each spring in order to focus attention on the importance of the federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program and the many community development and housing activities made possible through.  The county receives over $6 million annually in CDBG funding.  This year Community Development Week is being recognized from April 9 through April 15.  This year’s theme is “CDBG: Building Strong Communities” and supports the message of telling the story and promoting the success of CDBG.  This year, Community Development Week is focusing efforts on increasing support from sub-recipients--our nonprofit partners, and the thousands of beneficiaries that benefit through this federal funding provided to the county.  CDBG must become known to as many Americans as possible in order to garner strong grassroots support for the program.  This funding allows the nonprofits to develop viable urban communities by providing such services as affordable housing, supportive services, youth programming, and job training.  For more information, contact Joel Franklin in the Department of Housing and Community Development at 703-246-5163.
